After ordering my tail kit yesterday, I couldn’t wait to start working on it. However, I still had a tool box practice project to finish. I didn’t have much left to do, but it was enough to get my fix for a couple of days (I hope).
To finish the tool box, all I had to do was drive four rivets that hold the handle in place. On top of this, I also applied some decoration provided by Van’s and EAA.

Overall, this was a fairly easy project. The airfoil project is definitely more complicated and time consuming. However, with this project, its nice to end up with something useful.

Ethan,
What are you going to use the toolbox for?
I’ve read some people use it as a tool kit for their airplane (spare parts for trips, etc.), but I don’t love the idea of that thing floating around in back.
Maybe it will be more useful during the building kit.
I’m just starting the regular practice kit. Should be ordering the tail kit in a few weeks. Wanna race?

If it can be easily tied down, I like the idea of using it for an emergency tool kit. Otherwise, I’ll have to find some way to modify it and carry it with me in the finished plane.
No tail kit races for me…I have to go extra slow so that I have enough money saved for the wings by the time I finish the tail! Good luck with your build. I hope it goes smoothly for both of us.

Yeah, I’m looking at about 4 years, which is I think what you estimated on one of your pages.
My buildlog is also on wordpress. http://n999za.wordpress.com
Good luck.
