I was able to spend a little time in the garage between going to work, watching the NFL playoffs, and getting a few other things done. I opted to work on the trim access reinforcement plate (E-615PP) since it has several simple tasks that had to be completed and wouldn’t require a long span of time.
First, I had to countersink the holes that will accept the NAS1097 rivets I will use for nutplate attachment. This was done with just a few turns of my Avery deburr tool. Since the head of the NAS1097 rivet is smaller than a standard rivet, it is acceptable to countersink thinner material. Also, the rivets only hold the nutplate in place and the nutplate, with associated #6 screw, holds the access plate. Therefore, there is little stress on the rivet itself. Since I forgot to countersink these holes before priming, I sprayed another light coat of primer on the exposed aluminum created by the countersink.
Next, I used my pneumatic squeezer to attach the nutplates. In all, there are 7 nutplates on the reinforcement plate. Each of these is attached with two NAS1097AD3-3.5 rivets.
